On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed a stimulus bill that affected the energy efficiency tax credits, changing the extent and validity period of these credits.
Under this bill, energy tax credits are provided for significant energy efficiency home improvements, such as insulation, windows & doors, HVAC etc., Customers can receive a federal tax credit of 30% of insulation material costs in 2009 and 2010, up to $1,500, for existing homes. The insulation should carry a 2-year warranty or be expected to last for at least 5 years and must have a Manufacturer's Certification Statement. The home must be your primary residence**.
For insulation to qualify, the primary purpose must be to insulate., e.g. For example, siding is not primarily for insulation, so it does not qualify for the tax credit. As of 3/19/09, It is not clear if radiant barriers e.g. radiant paint would qualify as insulation for the purpose of this tax credit.
As part of our service, we will provide you with the necessary paperwork e.g. receipt, manufacturer's certification that you can use to claim your tax credit in your income tax returns.
To find out more about this tax credit, please visit the Energy Star website. Energy Star is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy.
